šŸŽ¶Must-Haves for Every Choir Sub Tub!

As teachers, we know that being absent can be stressful. Whether it’s a planned personal day or an unexpected sick day, one of the hardest parts is making sure students stay engaged and productive when we’re not there. That’s where a Sub Tub (or emergency substitute file) comes to the rescue!

Think of your Emergency Sub Tub as your safety net: a collection of ready-to-use resources that any non-music sub could pick up and run with. The goal? Activities that keep students busy, connected to music, and not dependent on specialized knowledge.

Here are some must-haves for your Choir Sub Tub:

1. Print-and-Go Worksheets

When you’re out, you can’t assume your substitute will be musically trained. Worksheets are a lifesaver for this! I like to keep ready-to-use activities/worksheets handy just in case I need to be out.

2. No-Tech Games

Subs often aren’t comfortable running tech-heavy activities. Simple, paper-based games can still keep your students engaged and are perfect for middle and high school choirs.

3. Listening Activities

Give your students a chance to listen, reflect, and write. Provide a playlist of great choir performances on YouTube. Then, leave a response sheet for students to complete. Check out this article on utilizing YouTube’s goldmine of choral related videos!
šŸ‘‰ I’ve created a FREE Music Performance Critique Worksheet that make this super easy for both you and the sub.
